LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SERIES
OF WINE TASTING EVENTS IN 2010 AT THE FORT!
In 2010 our Tasting Events will
continue as before and follow a specific theme. The themes may repeat
from year to year, but the wines will always be different. Unless
there is a conflict with a major holiday, the Tastings will be held on the
third Tuesday of the month. As always, they will continue to be an opportunity to taste
over 40 (usually over 50) wines that represent the best of their categories
in quality, value and price. We hope to see you there!
We wish to thank the terrific staff at
The Fort for their excellent support for the last four years.

WINERY OF THE MONTH
"New Wines of Spain &
Portugal"
Wines from Iberia are perfect for
hot summer weather. After all, "Sunny Spain" (& Portugal) have
cultures based on appreciating life in a very hot climate. The white
wines range from the slightly spritzy, fresh vinho verde of Portugal (the
perfect patio wine) to sparkling Cavas and the elegant Albariños , Verdejos,
Viuras and Godellos of Spain. The reds are also a real find.
There are rustic down-to-earth matches for any amount of garlic (crucial to
a Mediterranean life-style). Spain also has refined and elegant wines
for formal dinners (indoors and out); this is where new-method Tempranillo,
Monastrell (Mourvèdre) and Garnacha (Grenache), which are often blended with
Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot, are at their best. And there is
an entire spectrum in-between. There are also new wave Portuguese reds
that are simply superb. These wines represent excellent values at
their regular everyday pricing, and at these sale prices they taste even
better. We hope
